アダムの子孫
5 神に似た者として初めに造られたアダムの子孫は、次のとおりです。 2 神はまず男と女を造り、彼らを祝福しました。そして彼らを「人」と呼んだのです。
3-5 アダム――百三十歳で、自分によく似た息子セツが生まれる。彼はセツの誕生後さらに八百年生き、息子と娘に恵まれ、九百三十歳で死んだ。
6-8 セツ――百五歳で息子エノシュが生まれる。そののち八百七年生き、息子と娘に恵まれ、九百十二歳で死んだ。
9-11 エノシュ――九十歳で息子ケナンが生まれる。そののちさらに八百十五年生き、息子と娘に恵まれ、九百五歳で死んだ。
12-14 ケナン――七十歳で息子マハラルエルが生まれる。そののちさらに八百四十年生き、息子と娘に恵まれ、九百十歳で死んだ。
15-17 マハラルエル――六十五歳で息子エレデが生まれる。そののちさらに八百三十年生き、息子と娘に恵まれ、八百九十五歳で死んだ。
18-20 エレデ――百六十二歳で息子エノクが生まれる。そののちさらに八百年生き、息子と娘に恵まれ、九百六十二歳で死んだ。
21-24 エノク――六十五歳で息子メトシェラが生まれる。そののち三百年の間、敬虔な生活を送り、息子と娘に恵まれる。三百六十五歳の時、信仰あつい人として歩んだのち姿を消す。神が彼を取り去られたのである。
25-27 メトシェラ――百八十七歳で息子レメクが生まれる。そののちさらに七百八十二年生き、息子と娘に恵まれ、九百六十九歳で死んだ。
28-31 レメク――百八十二歳で息子ノア〔「休息」の意〕が生まれる。「神にのろわれたこの地を耕す仕事はつらいが、この子が休ませてくれるだろう」と考え、その名をつけた。レメクはそののちさらに五百九十五年生き、息子と娘に恵まれ、七百七十七歳で死んだ。
32 ノア――ノアは五百歳で息子が三人あった。セム、ハム、ヤペテである。

Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech. And after he became the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. ltogether, Methuselah lived 969 years, and then he died. When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. He named him Noah and said, "He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the LORD has cursed." After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Lamech lived 777 years, and then he died. After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth.
